DAN DEACON
"Dan Deacon is a furry ball of imagination and childlike wonder. In his world, convention is thrown out a 20th-story window and beaten with a bright red plastic hammer.Dan uses electronic gizmos, keyboards, and stuff he found in the trash to create amusing and confusing sounds, blended with absurd lyrics about undersea racing and feline entrepreneurs. He is also a classically trained composer."
(full solo set)

ULTIMATE REALITY
"A bizarre synthesis of psychedelia and electronica, Ultimate Reality again unites visual artist Jimmy Joe Roche with electro-spazz musician Dan Deacon. In this thirty-minute video, the two friends, collaborators, and co-members of Maryland art collective Wham City share a cockeyed love of Arnold Schwarzenegger. The muscle-bound movie star, appearing via cinematic clips, plays the duo's mind-bending muse. Neon, color-washed images of Schwarzenegger swirl over and under layers of abstract footage, creating a kaleidoscopic landscape of flashing, mirrored sequences. The disc's plotline also involves the governor of California; a series of scrolling text sequences combine the plots of Terminator, Junior, and Kindergarten Cop."
(Dan Deacon + Kevin O'Meare of Video Hippos and Jeremy Hyman of Ponytail both on drums + Jimmy Joe Roche [director of the video for the Crystal Cat, among others] on visuals)

LUCKY DRAGONS
Lucky Dragons "is the band that never breaks up: The cut and paste digital derivative of musique concrete, melodic memory, splintery soft glitches, anxious dada, dirty indie, beautytronics. Lucky dragons is Luke Fischbeck, who edits it like a magazine to make sure it stays going. There are so many others to share the light, though: singing, drawing, dancing, touching, plucking and spinning or sewing with sound files or just listening really well. We are a diy sound branding and sound breaking collective. Records are densely knit collages of ecstatic language, folk melodies, and AM radio rave ups. Live shows are convulsive celebrations of sounds from hard drives and gentle skin contact. Our aesthetic is handmade. Contributing members currently live in Providence RI, Philadelphia PA, coastal Southern California and New York City."
(absolutely amazing and emotionally moving music)

ABE VIGODA
Abe Vigoda, "a group of supercool dudes from Chino play tropical-magic rock jams. Like surfing in reverb and syncopated beats! Bright and shining teenage calypso punk. Shedding their no wave dissonance for tropical melody, has put them in opportune position to blast transcendent pop repetition. A younger more abrasive d.i.y. reincarnation of the Talking Heads, with the fiery repetition of Konono No. 1. Like all the scuzz and fake tropicalisms of Los Angeles shoved together - irrigated desert!"

San Diego and Los Angeles, represent: there's no Dan show in San Diego, and in LA you have to pay up to Ticketmaster (apparently bumps tickets to a ridiculous price. Here is an easy solution: come to this show.
If you go to UCI and like fun, this is really the best possible thing you can do on a Wednesday night. Really do tell + bring your friends: to do more we need to prove there is a student body that will attend and benefit from the event. For those who complain about the lack of things to do in Irvine, this is an attempt to relieve that.
If this goes well, look forward to more!
