Thanksgivin Day Show

It took a couple days to get this up, mainly because it was Thanksgiving, family was in town, and I'm busy sending out a whole batch of college applications. I also went to Disneyland yesterday, word up. The Toy Story game/ride at California Adventure is out of this world, too bad I was paired up with little kids every time and got whooped.

I brought my dad to the show on Thanksgiving so he could see what it was all about. He was pretty jazzed. Literally. He went through most of the jazz records and I foresee a show in the future in which he picks out all the sickest, old school fuzzy crackly jazz and I play them for him.

I planned on playing only DJs on the show, and it ended up working out pretty well. The illest, chillest, most fluxest thing happened two songs in. Dude calls up and tells me to keep it up with the mellow beats, cause he has his Russian lady friend to impress for the day. I told him right on didn't fail to deliver. It's a good feeling friends.

James was gone for Thanksgiving, he was with his family in Pasadena, I wish him well and await his return. Next week we will be back to funkin, slam dunkin and tree trunkin.

KUCI PROGRAM DESIGN CONTEST

Alright.

Looks like a lotta BS so far.

No just kidding, I see a lot of good artistic representation of KUCI in the program guide design contest, but I'm looking for a little bit more, ya know, something with a little bit of UMPH! Some that puts some kick in my taste buds and makes me shiver. Something that makes me feel like listening to Ray Charles for the first time and feeling the rolling keyboard riffs for the first time in my childhood. I want something to put me into epileptic seizure.

So far here is what is put up

Entries- http://www.kuci.org/designcontest/entries/

If you have some thing better in mind; something of more substance, please and I mean PLEASE send a submission to:

http://www.kuci.org/designcontest/

and make it dope, otherwise I won't think twice about it.

If you send anything however, I'll put up a link on this page and rep you harder than a hype man for the NWA.

PEACE out ya'll and that's it.

My Word is as true as my piece.

FROGS DARKING

Illllllllin'

Check it.

Vanilla Tootsie rolls that only come out during Halloween season. They're absolutely delicious and it really bums me out that it's limited time kinda thing. I'm not much of a sweet tooth and these things get me good. Now that I think of it, regular Tootsie Rolls taste like bitter gritty dirt and I'd take these vanilla ones over the regs anyday. WORD.

My psychology teacher told me on Monday that if you want to get around a lie detector test, put a tack in your shoe and press down on it when you answer questions truthfully. That way when you finally have to lie, your baseline will appear to remain as constant as your truthful answers. The more you know, right?

Lastly, and this is nothing really new, but it always gives me a laugh:

Here's two dope bands I played today, The Cool Kids, and Cinematic Orchestra

COOL KIDS
Golden Age hip hop duo based out of Chicago. These guys have a style of rapping all of their own. They love bicycles and repping Sega Genesis. I can't explain it, it just rocks. Apparently they got big through Myspace, which show a huge shift in the way people get and find out about new music. Really.

CINEMATIC ORCHESTRA
British homies that play jazz music and have a turn-tablist. It's a live band improvising over mellow beats, really chill. Been around for quite a long time, but check 'em out on Ninja Tune.

Sorry chomies, wish I had more to say but I'm in a bit of a rushkies.

I Want Some Splainin'

This vid right here.

Looks kinda real.

Also looks kinda fake.

Made too nice in some parts, too shoddy in others.

Breakfast is the Best Meal of the Day...

Honestly. Doesn't matter what time I wake up, whether its 7 in the morning or 5 in the afternoon, the first thing I want steaming in my belly better be something breakfast related; cereal, eggs, toast, pancakes, waffles, fruit. All good. All the time.

With that out of the way, today was a major success. I got iced coffee half way through the show and the girl behind the counter at the green tent had a Black Dice shirt on, so that was dope. James wants to add that she looks like a robot. Diff' strokes, diff' folks.

Also, anyone remember this show?? Nick Arcade? Crazy show where kids played inside video games? I'm really dying to know what it looked like for the contestants playing. Green screen?

I played this dope new Zach Hill album called Astrological Straits. People might disagree with me on this, but just about anything Zach Hill does is gold. Maybe I'm biased, maybe it's just cause I wish I could play drums that good but probably never will. Hell, I'm even down with his side project Nervous Cop, which is just three drummers going wild for a couple minutes. There was also an art show he did a while back that was pretty sweet, even if what he was selling, might have been a bit overpriced. Can't knock the guy for trying though.

That stuff aside though, this new album is pretty rockin. It has that Hella sound from Church Gone Wild and Homeboy. Its released on Ipecac Records, some fellows known for releasing almost all his stuff, and most of Hella's related acts. My man Zhubin recommended it to me, because we're both Hella fans. And if you want to check out his show, its called Hot Water, every Friday from 3:00-5:00PM.

Zoology here today

This post is a day late and I don't feel a single bit guilty about it.
Yesterday, as following with recent tradition, we had a group of fools in the studio, my friend's band, Zoology. They came to choose some music, do a little talking, and wax poetic on Korean BBQ. They have a kinda folk gypsy attitude to their music. They were currently working on some new tracks, so we opted to wait until those were finished before I played their stuff on air.
