thank you for the calls!

so hey, I think I got the most calls ever today (yes, even more calls than Lookout Records day). and I truly appreciate it. I should apologize though, because my theme of COVER SONGS kinda tanked when I got so many good cover song suggestions, but couldn't actually find any of 'em to play. to my knowledge, the Format hasn't recorded "Caravan", but I wish that they had so I coulda played it. If it was a live version, I might even be playin keys on it. Or dancing. I also couldn't find Lucero doing "Kiss the Bottle". drag. I hazily remember the first show Limbeck played with them on a tour a couple of years ago. we were in Atlanta, and it was Jonny P's first show with us. We killed it. Then decided to drink a bunch of whiskey and take off our shirts during Lucero's set. I'm pretty sure they played "Kiss the Bottle" that night, appropriately enough. Justin ended up in a planter out in front of the venue. And then I don't remember anything else. Golden.

So once again, thank you to all those that called in, and please call in again. This next week, I plan to play some Lucero, Format, New Ams, and other stuff in your honor. But y'all should call and remind me your name so I can shout it out.

Two things: It's Halloween friday. Get Stoked.

and b) next week, my show is on voting day. Get Stoked.

thirdly, as I may have already mentioned, I've got some classy instudio guests that may be happening in the next few weeks. Stay Tuned. Get Stoked.

TOMORROW ON NATIONAL FREEDOM

this tuesday I'm gonna be playin a handful of cover songs that I dig. If you have any good ideas, gimme a call and let me know what yer thinkin and I'll see if I can make it happen. to round out the hour, I'll also be playin some of my favorite songs that have been recorded over at Daytrotter. it's funny because every time I hear a new band that I dig, sure enough, I make my way over to the Daytrotter site, and they've already recorded a session there. pretty cool.

It's lookin like I'm gonna have a few real fun in-studio guests in the next month or so. keep an eye on this page, or over at kuci.org for info on all that stuff.

RACHAEL CANTU - Live this Tuesday 10/14

I am very happy announce that Rachael Cantu will be live in-studio this coming Tuesday, October 14th. She is not only a good friend, but an amazing songwriter. We've toured together in the past, and my fondest memories are wakin up early to take advantage of the hotel pool and the free continental breakfast spread before we hit the road. Those were the days... She'll be playin a few songs, as well as playin a few records she digs as well. It should make for a very, very fun show.

here are a few places to check out Rachael:

Oct 19 - Los Angeles, CA @ Tangier
Oct 26 - Los Angeles, CA @ Tangier
Nov 4  - Los Angeles, CA @ the Mint w/ LDR & the Kates

TUESDAY OCTOBER 7 = LOOKOUT RECORDS DAY!

Yes, it's finally here. It's gonna be hard to only play an hour of Lookout Records music. In fact, I could probably go for at the very LEAST four hours. That's what Robb thinks. We've packed our bags up with some of our faves, and I'm sure the station has a handful of great albums too. But it should make for a fun show. Lookout Records is basically the reason that I truly got into music in the first place.
I found myself with an extra old Lookout Records Comp CD that I'll be giving away on the air as well.

So be sure to listen in. The links to the right should work fine and dandy. And the request line is over that way as well. But I'll write it again, so there won't be any excuses. 949 - 824 - 5824.

Be good to yer friends!
And PS, the drawing above is by Christopher Appelgren, one of the co-owners of Lookout, and a ridiculously bad ass dude.
