week six = gimme yr best block

hey folks.

I've been gettin some real good requests via the phone / instant messenger / comments on here, but sometimes I don't have the
right music with me when I'm at the station, on the air and all that.

sooooooo! I was thinkin it might be cool to get some requests WAY AHEAD OF TIME, so I can be prepared. THEN, you will get your block played on the air. it'll be like yr personal recommendations for the week. personally, I think it's gonna be cool.

that being said, please please please comment here, and gimme a 4 song block to play. it would definitely be bonus points if there is some kind of theme to it. so keep that in mind. also, if you would like it to be dedicated to someone, or some THING... that's all good too. just remember, the songs can't be mainstream... indie-ish only pleaaaaase. and no bad words. the fcc don't like 'em during the day.

so bring it on.

thank you.

Next Show = Ben Nichols from LUCERO

the next show should be a unique one. This past Sunday, the Revival Tour stopped at the Casbah in San Diego. If you haven't heard of the tour, it's Chuck Ragan (of Hot Water Music), Tim Barry (of Avail), Tom Gabel (of Against Me), and good ol' Ben Nichols from Lucero. They start the show as a group, playing a few songs together, and then they each do solo sets, and then close it out all together at the end.  Anyhow, Robb and I brought our big band van down, and set up a few mics in it, and we were able to kidnap Ben after the show and have him spill his guts for about half an hour. He played a few songs, too. I personally think it's one of the coolest things ever to hear Ben make Almost Famous references somewhere past 3am, in a van, and then play a new, unreleased Lucero song. Sooooo, tune in to Songs of National Freedom this next tuesday, November 11th to hear this half an hour of gold, as well as some other good music about how good it is to be alive.

RACHAEL CANTU - Live this Tuesday 10/14

I am very happy announce that Rachael Cantu will be live in-studio this coming Tuesday, October 14th. She is not only a good friend, but an amazing songwriter. We've toured together in the past, and my fondest memories are wakin up early to take advantage of the hotel pool and the free continental breakfast spread before we hit the road. Those were the days... She'll be playin a few songs, as well as playin a few records she digs as well. It should make for a very, very fun show.

here are a few places to check out Rachael:

Oct 19 - Los Angeles, CA @ Tangier
Oct 26 - Los Angeles, CA @ Tangier
Nov 4  - Los Angeles, CA @ the Mint w/ LDR & the Kates

TUESDAY OCTOBER 7 = LOOKOUT RECORDS DAY!

Yes, it's finally here. It's gonna be hard to only play an hour of Lookout Records music. In fact, I could probably go for at the very LEAST four hours. That's what Robb thinks. We've packed our bags up with some of our faves, and I'm sure the station has a handful of great albums too. But it should make for a fun show. Lookout Records is basically the reason that I truly got into music in the first place.
I found myself with an extra old Lookout Records Comp CD that I'll be giving away on the air as well.

So be sure to listen in. The links to the right should work fine and dandy. And the request line is over that way as well. But I'll write it again, so there won't be any excuses. 949 - 824 - 5824.

Be good to yer friends!
And PS, the drawing above is by Christopher Appelgren, one of the co-owners of Lookout, and a ridiculously bad ass dude.

Houston, we don't have a problem anymore.

Hey Folks.
I've posted the playlist for today's first episode ever of SONGS OF NATIONAL FREEDOM. I think it looks pretty good, right? Unfortunately, the KUCI website was down the last day or so, which meant that the link I've been talkin about was NOWHERE TO BE FOUND! you know, the one where you can listen live at the safety of yer own computer at home. SOOOO, I've done some computerizing, and made a shortcut to those links. They can now be found on the little sidebar on the right --->

Come next week, you have no excuse to not be listening. Well, there are a handful of excuses I will consider, but no need to tell me. I already know.

This next week is themed LOOKOUT RECORDS DAY, where I will be playing all the hits Lookout Records has been responsible. There will probably be a good deal of 90's punk, BUT, if there's anything you want to hear that came out on Lookout Records, leave me a comment, or call in next Tuesday. It's gonna rule. Maybe I'll even have a giveaway or somethin.
