A couple of good music sites:
KUCI - I will argue this is better than any other site you've ever been on.
Pitchfork - This site is getting so hip that a lot of noncomformists hipsters are starting to bash it. Good reviews, up to the date news, once you get past all the pomp. Leans a bit towards indie rock, but that's fine by me.
All Music - All things music. You could pretty much find anything relating to music here, from band bios to CD Reviews. Necessary for anyone who loves music.
So here's some music that I love, including a bunch of my favorite mainstream artists. (don't tell anyone I like mainstream music I will get beat up.)
Nirvana - I grew up with this band. A lot of the music I listened to through middle school and lots of high school had a connection to Nirvana.
Radiohead - If you like music you'll love at least one of these albums.
Modest Mouse - Favorite lyrics in modern rock, incredible discography.
Led Zeppelin - Zeppelin rules.
Smashing Pumpkins - This band used to be incredible. No, seriously.
Queens of the Stone Age - If you think solos are dead in mainstream music, listen to this band.
Interpol - Monotone gloom with a perfect blend of guitars.
Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Before quirky was cool.
NOFX - Punk pioneers, pretty much got me into fast chords and quick basslines.
The Strokes - Brought the New York scene back and made constant down strokes popular.
The Velvet Underground - Laid back. Perfect for any mood you could think of.
Blonde Redhead - Really awesome band, generally mellow.
Wilco - Soothing music. One of the best voices in rock in Jeff Tweedy.
Elliott Smith - One of our generation's most talented singer/songwriters.
Spoon - Infectious beyond belief.
The Fiery Furnaces - New York siblings that go from pop to experimental in an instance.
The Arcade Fire - The good kind of drama.
Clap Your Hands Say Yeah - Up-tempo, high energy rock n roll.
Sparklehorse - Melodic, moody, beautiful.
The Walkmen - Clangy guitars, brilliant drumming, and a singer that sounds like an eccentric Bob Dylan.
The Kills - Reckless Punk Blues.
The Decemberists - Simple enough, good enough.
Beirut - Fun gypsy kind of stuff. I need more accordion.
Of Montreal - Happy indie pop with some psychedelia thrown in.
Metric - Indie pop led by Emily Haines, catchy.
Broken Social Scene - Canadian supergroup fun.
Yo La Tengo - These pioneers have been doing it for a while, songs crafted to near perfection.
Explosions in the Sky - Sit back and relax, these guys will set the scene for you without saying a word.
Do Make Say Think - Instrumental bliss, a great combination of jazz and alternative rock.
Okay - Genuine, simple pop music from Marty Anderson.
Built to Spill - I'd go as far as to say Built to Spill is this generation's Pink Floyd. Yeah, I went there.
Grizzly Bear - Beautiful, ambient, creative.
