LISTEN to Press Pass Music's ONE-YEAR Anniversary show AGAIN!

Thank you to Albert of OC Weekly, Monica of @KillTheMic, Kyle and Tyler (Tyle????) of We Are The Pilots, Joshy of Yellow Red Sparks, Trisha and Ryan of Honeypie for all stopping by, making cupcakes and brownies, bringing champagne that we unfortunately could not drink at the station, playing the ukulele, talking all at once and guest DJing (kinda). It was a blast...and chaos all at once but I love you all and really appreciate you being on the show today.

: )

Now, if you missed the show. See below. And click HERE.

VIDEO from Thursday's show! 15 musicians perform "HEY JUDE"

Thursday, April 30, 2009

LISTEN to the jam session on Press Pass Music show AGAIN!

The jam session/potluck party to celebrate the KUCI Night at eVocal in Costa Mesa this Saturday was a GREAT success! Four bands, We Are The Pilots, honeypie, Yellow Red Sparks and The New Limb all came into the studio and not only indulged on yummy food but played music/talked about their music. THEN the show ended with a BANG. All 15 musicians from all four bands performed a beautiful rendition of The Beatles' "Hey Jude." The show was epic and a great deal of fun. It's rare to get that many bands in one room and for them all to act like they're BFFs.

To listen or watch the video, please see below. HOPEFULLY we will see you all on Saturday night at eVocal. Show starts at 8 p.m. The cover is $7 and well worth it. Also, the Red Bull ladies will be stopping by.

Love you longtime.

HONEYPIE on the CW Network's "One Tree Hill?"

YES, it is true. Orange County-based band honeypie will have their song "Never Get Enough" on the CW show "One Tree Hill" this Monday at 9 p.m. Even though lead singer Trisha Smith recorded the tracks last year, in the last few months she has pulled together a great band of talented musicians and they played their first show in March for the OC Music Awards showcase. Congrats to honeypie and hopefully we'll hear more songs by them on the CW Network. Now, tune in at 9 p.m. tomorrow (Monday).

BTW honeypie is playing eVocal in Costa Mesa this Saturday w/We Are The Pilots, Yellow Red Sparks and The New Limb. And it's a KUCI Night too! You know what that means! It will definitely be a very good time. Also, all four of these bands are going to be on Press Pass Music this Thursday to celebrate the upcoming show. Expect some jam sessions and even a collaborative cover song? Hmmmm...should be interesting.

OC Weekly.... rocks!

There are some IMPRESSIVE articles in OC Weekly this week. First off, HoneyPie (who was on my show today) is featured in the Locals Only column, Will Crum's sneaky IKEA performance and fast-food tour is mentioned (click here to view) and Albert Ching wrote an insightful blog about the OC Music Awards nominations, which I feel the same way as Albert does. Go to www.ocweekly.com to see what else they're up to.

Today's show was SO much fun. We had a double whammy with The Union Line and then HoneyPie. Expect some photos, a recording of the live performance and interview AND video.

Thanks for listening you guys! Tonight, I'm heading to see The Bird and The Bee, Melanoid and Stacy Clark. I haven't decide what shows I'm going to this weekend as I have a ton of work I must do.... but next week: Ra Ra Riot at Detroit Bar on Monday and then the OC Music Awards Showcase at The Gypsy Lounge.

Press Pass Music -- 12-13-08 playlist and more

Hey kids,

I hope you're all having a wonderful weekend. As for me, I'm at the station doing some more volunteer hours and then I need to study for two finals. But don't worry Monday I will be free at last. Expect me to hit a bunch of shows this week.

As for what I played on this week's show, we heard some sounds from new bands never before played on Press Pass Music. Some of the bands were Melanoid, Czar Rose, TableFruit and Oliver Jane.... speaking of Oliver Jane... here's an email from Oliver about the song "Hot Misery" and "Passeporte." It's an inside scoop on what the songs are really about. This band is fairly new but is getting a pretty big following. Check out their myspace (www.myspace.com/oliverjane)

Here's what he said:
"Hot Misery" -- "Because tea is a HUGE part of the irish life style, we took to drinking it many times a day. 'Hot Misery' was inspired when Oliver spilled a cup of hot tea and and Jane's uncle got very cross with him. The original version had slurping noises in the song and everything."
From the lyrics: "I'm sorry that i made a mess, i promise that i'll clean it up someday."

"Passeporte" -- "This is a story about a woman who travels to Paris on a business trip. On her travels, she meets a young french man and they end up having a one night stand. she tries to tell him that it could never work out and leaves for the airport. he follows her yelling things in french at her but she can not understand what he says because she does not speak his language. she is convinced he is in love with her (she is kinda arrogant) and tries to tell him it will never work out. in reality the french man does not love her and is only trying to tell her she has forgoten her passport."

My playlist is below. But before that, there are some shows to check out tonight and later this week, AND A LOT OF THEM ARE FREE SHOWS!!

Enjoy the weekend.... go to a holiday party or go to a whole bunch... and please please see a local music show. Support...listen... and remember that what's in your own backyard is pretty GREAT.

Show #2 -- 10-11-08 -- I'm still here...

Well hello there listeners,

I completed my second show this morning.... wooooo hoooooooo! There were a lot of random goodies from local acts this show. I'm very pleased with all the talented musicians I have been finding here in Orange County. If you know of any bands that are local please let me know and I will try to play them next week.

This week's show I celebrated the Japanese Motors' new self-titled album. It came out last week so I played songs from the album throughtout the show. Also, this show I played old and new tracks by Venus Infers and found out that Trisha (previous lead singer of Venus Infers) has gone solo. Her new name is HoneyPie and her new music is quite great.

Thanks for listening you guys! Please email me if you want to talk music or if you have any comments: ashleyeliot@yahoo.com.

For homework, go to a local venue and check out the sights and sounds of your awesome Orange County musicians. They're working hard to get their music out into the world so the least you can do is listen. ; )

My playlist is below. Feel free to listen again to past shows on
