Gotta LOVE these locals

This is where I will be tonight AND I know KROQ is supporting it and not KUCI, but it's all about the Orange County music and this is definitely a show you don't want to miss.
Hope to see you there. AND please say hello.... and lets talk music. ; )

BTW catch Rye Douglas Band and The New Limb who go on at 7.

The Jakes @ eVocal, The Living Suns @ La Cave & The Studiofix @ The Prospector TONIGHT

KUCI is not competing with KROQ fyi. They are two totally different stations. When an artist does get some play on a mainstream station, then that's great. I'm so glad that KROQ is supporting independent artists in Orange County like The Jakes. Yet I don't know how much promotion it is since there is only one hour a week dedicated to independent local bands. If only they were played more during the week!! Lets make it happen...that's my plan. So The Jakes will have the second show of their residency at eVocal tonight. The show is with Dolphin City, Run Doris Run and The Outline. It's all ages and free plus there is food, drinks, DJs and art! Show starts at 7 p.m. (super early, I know!).
Here's a promo that the guys made for their residency.

After the eVocal show, you can easily head down the street to La Cave to catch a last minute/surprise show with The Living Suns AND after stopping by head over to The Prospector in Long Beach to see The Studiofix. A lot is happening on this great Tuesday...and on top of all of that it is Taco Tuesday...go get them tacos!!

Whatever you decide to do, I hope you go to a show and support your local music.

OCMA Live Showcase at Chain Reaction recap

Six bands... one all ages venue...no alci...no food...done by 11 p.m. THANK GOODNESS the bands rocked the OCMA Live Showcase at Chain Reaction last night because otherwise I would have gone stir crazy. Finally, I got to see The Jakes perform live... how it was what I had imagined-- it sounded great, they looked great and yes, I did sing along. Last night had a pretty solid lineup. The lineup started with Duress, then The Steelwells, The Jakes, Bridgetown -- now called Western Front, The Sequence and finally Years.

If you missed it... well hopefully you will check out these bands and go to one of their shows. I know The Jakes took off to NY right after the show... so you won't see them for a little bit. But you can check out Years this Saturday at eVocal with Dolphin City and The Sequence at Chain Reaction in March, etc.

Love OC music longtime,

Ash

THE JAKES on Thursday's show & MORE

The Jakes will be on the Press Pass Music show this week. The band will be on at 1 p.m. AND at noon you will hear an interview and acoustic set from the band Moostache (OC Weekly's Locals of the Week) who I had in the studio like a couple hours ago. They would have been on the show live but Patrick, their lead singer will be in his 4th period class at Marina High. Young he may be... but his vocals are oh-so-powerful. You'll hear it soon enough.

ALSO, I have tickets to give away to the OCMA Live Showcase w/The Jakes at Chain Reaction (all ages) this Tuesday AND I have a pair of tickets to see Dusty Rhodes and The River Band at Detroit Bar (21+) -- when I play "First You Live" by Dusty Rhodes and The River Band be the first caller and you got the tickets.

If you missed Tuesday's OCMA showcase, here are a few videos for your amusement. You can find more at Press Pass Music's YOUTUBE.

What happened at last night's OCMA Live Showcase??

Last night was the first Orange County Music Awards Live Showcase at Chain Reaction in Anaheim. The all ages venue opened its doors to six bands and over 130 fans. The bands included We Are The Pilots (on my show last week), Moostache (on the show this week), Dolphin City, Halos, Twentyfour64 and Franki Doll and The Broken Toys. I FILMED each of these bands so if you missed the show... then I got some enticing videos that will make you definitely want to go to next week's show at Chain Reaction. Don't forget the showcases are every Tuesday!

I have to say the funniest part of the night was when Irvine-based band Sail Heezer ( who I played on last week's show and had 20 of their fans call in pretending to be different people and saying how much they loved the band) found me at the show and then I introduced them to Albert Ching, OC Weekly music editor- also the one who answered most of those calls when he was on my show last week. And I was pretty excited to hear that all the members in the band either go to or graduated from Uni High in Irvine -- graduating class of 2004 baby! I had to throw that in there. ; )

On this Thursday's show, I'm talking to The Jakes and Moostache... ALSO I have tickets to give away for next week's OCMA Live Showcase and to Thursday night's Dusty Rhodes and The River Band show at Detroit Bar in Costa Mesa. Call in: 949.UCI.KUCI.

Playlist for 11-22-08 -- Hong Kong Six's new ablum and the surf report.

Well, another show bites the dust and here's the recap of what happend: I played Hong Kong Six's new album "Once Upon A Time In The West," throughout the show, and tried to adhere to my surfer listeners needs by throwing in some Japanese Motors and a surf report. It was a fun show. I usually record my show but the stupid computers in the studio were all messed up and ended up not recording it. urggggg!

BTW I'm looking for local surf music so if you know of any please email me: ashleyeliot@yahoo.com.

Next week, I don't have classes... so lets party. Hopefully I will be going to bunch of shows this week, maybe I will see you at Detroit Bar or La Cave. ; )

Have a beautiful weekend and don't forget to check out your local music scene...it will do wonders for you.

The Halloween after party at Press Pass Music - Show #5 - 11-01-08

Happy Halloween Weekend!!!!!!!!

So here's what happened:
I was up at 7:30 a.m. Friday and stayed awake until 8:30 a.m. Saturday. It was my first alnighter while I have been a DJ... and oh it was a good time. Dressed as my alter ego aka Wonderwoman, 5 ladies and I party hopped in Newport then to Huntington.....ending the night at a friend's house at 3 a.m. playing Rockband and singing Pat Benetar. I went to the show still as Wonderwoman.... I played Halloweenish tunes by local musicians and passed out when I got home.

Then last night, my friend Nina and I continued the celebration by going to a lame club opening in Newport Beach but we walked right in and walked right out.... and rushed over to Durty Nelly's for some karaoke! We rocked out to Pat Benetar's "Heartbreaker ( yes, I have been obsessed with this song all weekend.... but you know I would have sang Journey's "Don't Stop Believin'" if someone hadn't sang it already). Here are pics from last night... since I have a feeling the third member of our trio who assisted with our routine will be checking out my blog, well if he knows what's good for him. :P Oh and we also met McLovin!! ; )

Hopefully all of you guys had a memorable Halloween!
