| UCI STUDENTS: PLANT YOUR SOCIAL MEDIA FLAG | |||
On April 4th, 2011, our on campus FM station KUCI will be showcasing the Bren School, and all that UCI has to offer our aspiring student entrepreneurs, by partnering with RadioFlag, a local Irvine tech start up, that will officially launch … going live with its web and mobile applications. This small ‘live radio centric’ social media start up, created by a team of 18, includes those who are current and former students of UCI. To express their appreciation for our University and for helping produce such talent, their management team will be holding their launch festivities on the campus of UCI. KUCI and RadioFlag together will be offering a day of fun live programming broadcasted remotely on campus from 12 pm to 4pm, which will include music, special radio guest co-hosts, celebrities and professional athletes, both in person and by phone, focusing on topics and discussion relevant to UCI and its student body. Those who register for the application will immediately be entered into drawings held throughout the 4 hour event for great giveaways, including Los Angeles Lakers playoff tickets. RadioFlag’s social media applications will drive listeners from all over the world to KUCI’s broadcast, extending the station’s reach, expanding its audience outside the immediate area via our internet stream, thus exposing to the world all that UCI has to offer. The applications are free and UCI students exclusively will be notified first - when and where they will be made available for download a few days before launch day. Simply visit www.radioflag.com and register for early access to the RadioFlag app and to be eligible for raffle prizes on April 4th at the 'Plant Your Social Media Flag' event at UCI. You must use your uci.edu or kuci.org email address. To support our fellow students who helped create this promising new venture, we are asking you to come out and show your Anteater pride by rallying around them on this special day in the history of their young company. The challenge: Let's help RadioFlag be to UCI what another social media start up was to Harvard. You may have heard of the one which launched in a dorm room back in 2004. That social site registered approximately 1,500 users in a 24 hour period. So, let’s plant our flag in history on the social media landscape, by surpassing that number. The media will be watching, so let’s do our school proud! Expected guests include (partial list): World Champion - Los Angeles Lakers radio announcers on ESPN, Mychal Thompson and Spero Dedes. Mychal is also a two-time Laker ‘Showtime’ champion and former number 1 overall pick in the NBA draft. Spero is a fast rising star in broadcasting. In addition to being the play by play voice of the Lakers, he also a host and announcer on the NFL Network, and CBS Sports - doing NCAA Men's Basketball and NFL games. Hall of fame broadcaster Rich Marotta; co-host of KFI’s Bill Handle Show. He is the only sportscaster to ever broadcast for three major sports franchises in Los Angeles, including the Raiders, Kings and Clippers. He also broadcasts world title boxing events on television. LA Laker Champion, Philanthropist and Hip Hop recording artist Ron Artest. 5 Time World Champion boxer, actor, motivational speaker, broadcaster, and recent ‘Dancing with the Stars’ contestant, Sugar Ray Leonard. Former All Star and World Series Champion pitcher, and current Angels broadcaster, Mark Gubicza. Actor and Host of TV’s Extra and MTV’s America's Best Dance Crew, Mario Lopez. He was also a recent participant of Dancing with the Stars and serves as a boxing analyst, covering Manny Pacquiao / Top Rank promoted fights worldwide.
