Exene Cervenka, L.A.'s punk rock poet and prophetess, rides into town on a new horse: Original Sinners. Her possee consists of Kim Chi and Mat Young, former rhythm section of The Distillers, and guitarists Sam Soto and Jason Edge (slide guitar) and their debut bridges the gap between X and their proto-punkabilly side project, The Knitters. One of the highlights of this new incarnation is the psychobilly grrrl sounds of Exene's off-kilter vocals backed up by another woman. Lyrically, Exene has never faltered and she continues to write such gems as "Lookin' at Texas/Through batty eyelashes/And dust bowl colored glasses/Wanting for hours/Oh yes I must confess/ I need a little bartenderness/Assault and flattery...I'm making us whiskey for supper/Spin the bottle, spin the bed/Crazy in love or crazy instead?" Punk and twangy drunk Original Sinners serve up 13 heart-breaking songs of staggering genius.
