For all you Squarepusher fans out there, if you have been following Tom Jenkinson through his several LP and EP album releases including, Big Loada, Feed Me Weird Things, Go Plastic, Hard Normal Daddy, and Music Is Rotted One Note to name a few, you may feel that you have a good grasp on what Squarepusher has to bring to the table, but really, you don’t “know Squarepusher.” Beginning with a previously twelve inch released single, the title track gets things started with a nice melodic, downbeat number, before morphing into a catchy, fast, frantic, elctro-vocal laced outing. “F-Train” is mixed up Aphex Train (“Come To Daddy”) dancing in the streets to a plethora of electric sounds. “Kill Robok,” complete with sporadic electronical outbursts further nullifies any notion of anybody truly knowing Squarepusher with its random production. “Anstromm-Feck 4,” may be the only track on this album that is sincerely vintage Squarepusher. Complete with superimposing bass lines and distributing snare accents derived with tempo, it’s a real trip through memory lane. “Mutilation Colony” is a Halloween type song with all of its forging samples, and unhinged crescendo’s which develop into an eerie feeling, downbeat, foot tapping track. Most surprising though, is the final song, “Love Will Tear Us Apart.” A Joy Division cover, Squarepusher destroys it with odd, off key vocals mixed in with multiple over dubs of bass and guitar. A strange album with a fresh sound from Tom Jenkinson. Very entertaining to say the least.
