Described as “difficult listening” by the artist himself, you can count on Squarepusher’s ‘Go Plastic’ album as being just that. Don’t get me wrong - difficult listening isn’t meant to be a bad thing. Tom Jenkinson who is Squarepusher combines elements of drum and bass, hip hop, and jazz into a crazy amalgamation of frenetic music. A common theme throughout ‘Go Plastic’ is a whole lot of chopping up of elements and a whole lot of confusion. On many a track the tempo of the song drastically changes speed, and lazy repetition is hard to find. It’s almost like the artist is improvising the whole way. Regular, static electronic music this album is not. If different is what you are looking for, Squarepusher’s ‘Go Plastic’ is definitely something to consider.
