BELLE & SEBASTIAN
@ The Wiltern, Los Angeles, California, Sunday March 19th
by: Ziba Z

If you missed Belle & Sebastian this weekend in L.A. your next chance to see them would be at the Hollywood Bowl on July 6th with a full orchestra backing them up (the L.A. Philharmonic!) The anticipation in the air before they took the stage was tangible, The crowd went wild as soon as the lights went down. Close to 10 pm Belle & Sebastian began their set with the first song off their newest album.

The first floor was fully packed and the crowd was simultaneously bobbing their heads along to the poppy music. Everyone loved it, you got the feeling that B&S haven’t been to town in awhile. Sarah on violin whose backup vocals were angelic and Stuart with his very pronounced Scottish accent was refreshing. It was a night of romping through fields of flowers in the sun. Trumpets sounded and cellos harmonized with violins. It was quiet an experience for all to share.

Stuart was the dancer of the group, in his little hat and tight jeans, he bopped around the stage so enthusiasticly it was slightly awkward at times. The music as a whole was so right on the spot that one would have thought it a recording, they were so polished and together. Some of their songs are like stories "she wanted more than meat and potatoes" it's like a musical! Check them out for free today at the Amoeba Records on sunset for a few songs at 3pm!
