"Cinemaphonic 2: Soul Punch"
A Funky Compilation
by: Sean Boy

Another pint-sized soundtrack library to add to your library. Stacked fourteen tracks full with 70's cinema sounds, all listed by title/composer, duration, and description (a layout detail unfortunately missing on the last Cinemaphonic release). "Punchy brass riffs with very exciting funky rhythm backing, short fuzz guitar and organ solo." Thatıs the description for the title track, "Soul Punch", by Piet Van Meren. Who? Most of the composers are unknown, British instrumentalists hired on to interpret American jazz and funk. And in the translation something wonderful happened - putting these guys in the spotlight made them shine and they composed some damn tight grooves. These compositions are indeed little films in and of themselves. Check out the plot line to Don Harper's "Purple Blues" : "Exciting, punchy theme, with increased excitement over the relentlessly continuing theme to climax." Such musical cinema went missing for some twenty years, until blokes like David Holmes came along.
