How to create an easy homepage for your KUCI show

Follow these easy steps to create a homepage for your KUCI show.
  1. Get an account from an ISP with webpage access. Most have them, including kuci.org. (You can still continue with the next 3 steps even before you've done this.) If you have a kuci.org or aol.com address, then you've already done this!
  2. Create your first homepage. You have 3 options for this step:
    1. If you are an AOL user, go to: http://hometown.aol.com/hmtwn123 or http://hometown.aol.com/, follow the directions there, and then go to step 6 (skipping steps 3-5).
    2. Right-click on webpage_template to download a template for your page. Then edit it, following its instructions, and save it as "index.html" (see the instructions within the file). To see how this looks as a webpage, click on: template.htm.
    3. Create your own page using a word processor. First, save it in the standard format for that processor. Then, use the "save as" command, select "html" or "webpage" for the format you'll save it as, then save it as "index.html".
  3. If you are using the template, right-click on kuci001.gif to download the kuci graphic.
  4. View the edited html file on your computer to see that it looks right.
  5. Upload your edited html file (index.html) and any graphic (kuci001.gif) to your server. Here's one way to do this:
    1. You'll need an FTP program. You can find one at: http://spirit.dos.uci.edu/spirit/download; Mac users can download Fetch-FTP, PC users can download WS-FTP. (Just click on it.)
    2. Install the program if you need it.
    3. Open the program, and type in (or select) "kuci.org" (or the address of your ISP) as the host-name or address. (You'll need to enter your kuci account ID and password.)
    4. Click on "public_html" as the folder for the remote system. For the local system, select the folder where your "index.html" is stored.
    5. Select "index.html" from your local system, then click on the arrow (-->) to move it to the remote system. You should see it show up on the remote system.
  6. Check out your page on the web.
  7. Inform the KUCI Webmaster to link to your page from the KUCI Schedule.
Now that you've gotten started, there are lots of fancy tricks you can learn. But this was meant to help you get started with a minimum of technical detail.
