With all that has happened in 2005 it is hard to believe the year is almost over. Our biggest news has been welcoming Elijah James to the world on March 6.
He weighed in at 7 lbs, 5.5 oz, and 19 inches long. Since then he has grown to over 19 lbs and 28 inches long. Parenthood suits us just fine. Honey cat has adjusted well to the new family member,
even showing concern when he's crying. Elijah has taken a liking to her though, and with his recent locomotive developments, she has had to keep alert.
With Elijah's arrival we began yearning for some room to spread out. In July our prayers were answered when Geoff accepted a job as a facility manager for the new 900 MHz NMR spectrometer at UCHSC.
He now works in the same building as his post-doctoral research over the last two years, but is officially employed by the University of Colorado, Boulder. We are in the process of switching visas,
which will allow us to apply for a green card. This can take up to 5 years, but it is our intention to permanently settle here in the U.S.
Having a permanent job allowed us to buy our first home in September. It is a 3 bedroom home with a loft and is located close to a park and several good schools.
We are now much closer to our church than we were before, so while most people find a church close to home we found a home close to church.
Elijah has been a popular little guy, and has attracted many visitors. The grandmas traveled to see us and help out a little. Carey (Melissa's mom) came to visit both in January and in March,
and Diane (Geoff's mom) came in April and November. Our good friend Cindy (along with her kids Amy, Alyssa, Alec & Abbie ) drove out from California to meet Elijah at the end of March.
With the new home we hope to see many more friends and family here now that there is more room for everyone.
Our travel was somewhat limited this year for obvious reasons. We had a wonderful time spending last Christmas in Victoria, B.C. with Geoff's family, and before Elijah arrived,
we celebrated our 8th anniversary in the mountains at Copper Mountain. Geoff spent time skiing and hot tubbing and Melissa swimming and browsing shops. On Father's Day, Geoff flew up to Calgary
to spend the day with his dad, while Melissa and Elijah flew up the following morning. We then drove up to Edmonton to see Melissa's family and our friends, and Melissa's best friend, Lisa,
hosted a party so that we could have the opportunity to see all our friends during our short stay. We also took Elijah out to the farm to meet his great-grandparents. After driving back down to Calgary,
we spent some time with Geoff's family taking a day trip to Banff (Elijah's first time going to the mountains), and dodging mosquitos for a summer BBQ.
Travel with Elijah was challenging, but we are still hoping to get back to California next year to introduce our son to everyone there.
We do not have any travel plans for the Holidays, allowing us to enjoy our first Christmas with Elijah in our new home. We plan to have Elijah's baby dedication in December,
and get his first picture taken with Santa.
God bless you this holiday season,
Love Geoff, Melissa, Elijah & Honey Cat
