Let's try to put this subject to rest...

I also have a UMAX 1220S scanner and bought a SCSI CD-RW drive hoping to use the card that
came with the scanner.. Here's the scoop:

Based on what is contained in this entire message board, it is not likely that the drivers are
available. I looked for hours on the net and found lots of leads, but all were dead ends.

The card is actually a DTC436E SCSI card. It is most likely made by DTC of Taiwan, NOT DATA TECHNOLOGIES
(www.datatechnology.com). Their own web site disavows any knowledge of this card.

The SCSI card is a proprietary card. The drivers are embedded in the scanner software that comes
with the scanner. If you look at the card you'll see jumper #1 (J1) sets the card to NOT be PNP.
This is why Windows can't find it. Remove the jumper, and windows will find the card, but alas...
no drivers!

Several of the scanner companies have been shipping SCSI cards with their Scanners since 1994.
They all are similar to the UDS-IS11, DTC-3181e, DTC436e, etc. The cards are intended to
work only with their scanners. They are not useful with other SCSI peripherals.

If anybody out there can prove me wrong wrong about the drivers for these cards, I'm sure the people
who need them will greatly appreciate it.

I bit the bullet and spent $40 on a PCI SCSI card at Best buy. Problem solved.
Hope this helps stop the insanity.

Dan
