Irvine -- KUCI's Subversity, a public affairs show, today takes a look back at the anti-WTO protests in Hong Kong in December 2005.
Our show is slated for today, Monday, February 6, 2006, from 9-10 a.m. Pacific time, on KUCI, 88.9 FM in Orange County, California, and is webcast simultaneously via kuci.org.
We talk with an eyewitness, Choi Wai-Kit, a UCI Chinese graduate student in sociology from Hong Kong and air audio from the event.
The audio clip includes a brief interview with "Long Hair," a local radical (Leung Kwok-Hung) in a Che Guevara T-shirt, who in an upset got himself elected to Hong Kong's Legislative Council in 2004. According to Wikipedia, Leung was injured during the week-long protests, arrested but later released and not prosecuted.
Three Korean anti-globalization protestors still face trial, accused of attacking the local police during the protests. Some 900 protestors were originally arrested.
