Girl Tears - Tension - [Sinderlyn]
Girl Tears are a 3 piece Punk Rock band from Los Angeles, CA. Their new full length album Tension is a fast paced and energetic record whose sound can be characterized by distorted guitar riffs, fast paced drumming, and muffled yet melodic vocals. With no song clocking in over one minute in length, this album sticks to the roots of Punk Rock music that was developed and pioneered all throughout the ‘70s and ‘80s. Some notable punk rock bands whose sound can compared to that of Girl Tear’s include: The Ramones, The Misfits, and The Damned. To sum things up, this album is one that anyone who has ever been a fan of Punk Rock will most certainly enjoy. Tracks to definitely check out on this record include: “Kill For Love,” “Jinx,” “Candy Darling,” and “Suffocate.”

Sin 34 - Do You Feel Safe? - [Sinister Torch Records]
Sin 34 is a 4 piece Hardcore Punk band from Santa Monica, CA who were around during the early ‘80s and who re-united in 2008. Earlier this year, Sinister Torch Records decided to re-release the band’s only full length album Do You Feel Safe?, which first came out over 30 years ago. During their prime, Sin 34 was considered as very unique, as they were one of the only bands within the Hardcore Punk scene to feature a female lead vocalist. This gave the band an edge over a lot of the other bands on the scene though, as lead singer Julie Lanfield’s powerful and anger filled voice was able to give the band more of a hard edged sound which resembled the sound of some of the other bands within the L.A. Hardcore Punk scene such as: X, Black Flag, The Circle Jerks, and Fear. Tracks to definitely check out on this record include: “Do You Feel Safe,” “After You,” “War At Home,” “Say We Suck,” and “Left Waiting.”

Single Mothers - Negative Qualities - [HXC Recordings]
Single Mothers are a 4 piece Punk Rock/Hardcore band from London, ON (Canada). Their new album Negative Qualities is a fast paced and hard edged record whose sound can be characterized by loud and distorted guitars, upbeat drumming, and screaming vocals. With that being said, Single Mothers is still able to create a unique sound that borrows from a few different types of Punk Rock/Hardcore bands such as: Angel Du$t, Touché Amoré, and Only Crime. Tracks to definitely check out on this album include: “Overdose,” “Marbles,” “Blood Pressure,” and “Money”

Nots - We Are Nots - [Goner Records]
Nots are a 4 piece all-girl Punk Rock band from Memphis, TN. Their debut album We Are Nots is a raw and energetic record that can be characterized by twangy guitars, angst filled vocals, and haunting synth lines. While listening to this record, the listener can pick out elements of many other well-known punk rock bands such as: X, Bikini Kill, and Sleater-Kinney. After listening to this record, I can easily say it is exactly when you expect a punk rock album to be: fast, loud and full of energy. Tracks to definitely check out on this album include: “Insect Eyes,” “Decadence,” “Strange Rage,” and “Get Along.”

Icky Boyfriends - Live In San Francisco - [Castle Face Records]
Icky Boyfriends are a 3 piece Punk Rock/Garage Rock band from San Francisco, CA. Their new live album Live In San Francisco is an energy packed record that hits the listener hard with its fuzzed out guitars, pounding drums, and screaming vocals. While this band’s sound is very raw and distorted, it still has a sense of melody to it that makes the listener want to tap their feet and hum along with the music. With that being said, Icky Boyfriend’s sound is one that can be compared to some of the more well-known ‘80s punk rock bands such as: The Misfits, The Faith, and Black Flag. Tracks to definitely check out on this album include: “22 Fillmore,’ “Miss Nevada,” “Frank’s Mom,” and “Drug Wars.”

The Pop Group - We Are Time - [Freaks R Us]
The Pop Group is a 4 piece Post-Punk band from the UK who were around during the late ‘70s and early ‘80s and who re-united in 2010. Their album We Are Time, which was just re-released courtesy of Freaks R Us records, is a compilation album that features some of the band’s unreleased material as well as some of their B-Sides and rare live recordings. The Pop Group has a very unique sound that during the peak of their popularity was considered to be ahead of their time. This sound is characterized by dissonant guitar riffs, heavy baselines, and haunting vocals. While their sound is unique, the listener can tell that they borrowed some things from other well-known Post-Punk/Punk Rock bands such as Joy Division, Television, and The Damned. Tracks to definitely check out on the album include: “Trap,” “Genius or Lunatic,” “Colour Blind,” and “Kiss The Book.”
