Rainy Revelers!

These blurbs are of the succinct variety. Secondly, There are an ungodly amount of new records this week that have big and exciting names.

Hot Chip - Made In The Dark [Astralwerks]
Now you don't have to play "Boy from School" for the millionth time.

Vampire Weekend - Vampire Weekend [XL]
2008's big buzzzzzzzzzzz band. Just a matter of time before KROQ gets their grubby gnarled paws on this. Alsoooooo really good.

Xiu Xiu - Women As Lovers [Kill Rock Stars]
This album has a cover of "Under Pressure" on it. Not only that, stone-voiced Michael Gira of Angels of Light/Swans fame sings on it. I fully expect every show on KUCI to play this song.

Mahjongg - Kontpab [K]
I hadn't listened to this band before but from my brief dip into this disc I think it may be my favorite so far of all the adds this week. Polyrhythmic repetition forever. Black Dice fans take noooooooote.

Evangelicals - The Evening Descends [Dead Oceans]
Weirdo-orchestral-pop that may reminisce of the Flaming Lips for reasons beyond their shared homestate.

Mussels - Little Voices [Self-Released]
Actually exciting indie-rock.

Kelley Stoltz - Circular Sounds [ Sub Pop]

This album is a plastic disc of melody. If you dug that White Blue Yellow & Clouds album, this is basically that but not as kistchy. But just as good.

Chris Walla - Field Manual [Barsuck]
Yeah, THAT Chris Walla.

American Music Club - The Golden Age [Merge]
Slooooooooow indie-rock of the singer-songwriter persuasion.

Human Bell - Human Bell [Thrill Jockey]
Really wonderful, melodic, pretty, sort-of ambient intstrumental music. I dig this one a lot.

AND ONCE AGAIN:

Here are two likely very covetable albums that were supposed to add last week but arrived late.

Cat Power – Jukebox

Super Furry Animals – Hey Venus!

OKAY!!

That's it for this week.

til next time,

sam
