WORLD
Various Artist- Panama!3 [Soundway]
This is the third volume of some sweet tropical gems from the 60s/70s. As far as the music goes, i'll quote the press sheet, "a soulful blend of Latin American, Caribbean, European and indigenous forms. From bilingual calypsos to guajira jazz, from tropical guarachas to cumbia tamboreras." Lots of great stuff all over the spectrum here. highly recommended. also: TOP NOTCH LINER NOTES.

JAZZ
Sounds of Liberation-Sounds of Liberation [Porter]
This cements Porter as a great label to me. A re-issue of 1972 recordings, this Philly group mixes jazz, funk, free jazz, and "spiritual jazz." This kind of jazz has just the right amount of "free jazz" influence on it, so I love it. Still a ton of melody, just a little bit of rawness to keep legit.

ROCK A
Various Artists-The BYG Deal [Finders Keepers]
So you already know this is good from the label. This is a compilation of songs off a French label from the 60s and 70s (BYG). Lots of prog/psych/weird stuff including early recordings of Vangelis, Gong, Art Ensemble of Chicago, and featuring stuff from members of Soft Machine (!!!), MAGMA, Procul Harum, and more. As always, top notch liner notes from this label.

Follow That Bird-One Sider promo [Monofonus]
Great female-lead trio that sings poppy rock influenced by grunge and garage. Very catchy and cool, I like track 2 the most. Also they big props for citing Gun Club and Dead Moon in their press release.

Laura Veirs-July Flame [Raven Marching Band]
Female-lead group of the folk influenced sort of indie rock. Very nice and full sounding arrangments. Also you can tell the girl knows her way around a guitar. and Rimbaud. Very pretty.

Their Planes Will Block Out The Sun-White Dancer [self-released] Melodic stuffs with a some fancy unique guitar work twinkling around here and there. Has the style of vocals sort of like Interpol and the National and a dash of crooning on top of it all.

EXPERIMENTAL

Trayer-One Over Zero [Porter]
A great melodic and dream-y album that runs through more beat based RPM to glitch to ambient to chiptune. Very relaxing and unique. Each song is pretty different so keep on looking through this one till you find the right mix of accessibility to experimentation to soothe the soul.
